Outcomes of our care 2022
Rugpoli has been providing care to patients with back problems for twenty years. Based on our experience we can say our treatmens achieve good results. To continue and monitor our quality of care, Rugpoli continuously conducts research into the outcomes of our care. We ask all new patients to complete four questionnaires during one year; prior to start of treatment and after three, six and twelve months. The answers we receive are combined with patient's diagnoses from their medical files and anonymously presented below.
The outcomes of our care are measured with validated and standardized questionnaires. This means the questionnaire measures what it is supposed to measure and the question is asked the same way to every patient. This allows us to make good comparisons. In the following graphs we distinguish between patients with back and/or leg complaints and patients with neck and/or arm complaints.
Patients with back and/or leg complaints
The outcomes of care for patients with back and/or leg complaints are measured with two questionaires. Disability is measured with the Oswestry Disability Index and pain is measured with a rating from zero to ten. The higher the rating, the more severe the disability or pain. The bar chart below shows the average development of 1269 patients regarding disability and pain during one year.
The bar chart is based on a statistical analysis and shows that an average improvement of 1.9 points in disability was achieved for 1269 patients, with a change of 1.2 points being clinically relevant. The average back pain improved by 2.8 points, worst back pain by 3.0 points, average leg pain by 3.8 points and worst back pain by 4.4 points. For pain, a change of 2.0 points is clinically relevant.
The group of patients with back and/or leg complaints consists of two large sub groups, being patients with Lumbar Radicular Syndrom (back complaints which radiates to the legs) and patients with only lower back complaints. The outcomes of these sub groups can be found below.
Patients with neck and/or arm complaints
The outcomes of care for patients with neck and/or arm complaints are measured with two questionaires. Disability is measured with the Neck Disability Index and pain is measured with a rating from zero to ten. The higher the rating, the more severe the disability or pain. The bar chart below shows the average development of 103 patients regarding disability and pain during one year.
Patient satisfaction
The participating patients have also indicated how satisfied the are with the care provided by Rugpoli. This does not only concern the result of the treatment, but also about information provision, the way our staff treats you, hygiene, joint decision making about treatment and advice for home. The percentage on the right shows the combined satisfaction at three, six and twelve months (after start of treatment) on the subjects mentioned above.
